Hi Reg/Danny
First of all Reg I was born and bred up in Salisbury street just down the road from you, went to St Johns school in Warwick St then on to the girls school at Tradeston street then up to Holyrood the Tradeston St school is still there but I don't know what it is now. Is one of the new buildings at Eglinton st named Wellcroft but it is down a bit from the old one.
I left Salisbury St in 1956 when I got married but my family stayed there until 1959/60 when the buildings were all be demolished they came up here to Castlemilk.
I followed them up in 1961 still here
Sorry Danny but the weather has changed it is raining this morning so safe journey when you come up and I'm sure you will have a great time, go over to the bowling club in the Oatlands one of your days I'm sure somebody will sign you in that's if they still do it.
At the moment my hubby and I are decorating I wanted to get someone in but he said he could do it himself so he's the boss ;) so I will have to go and try and clean up some of the debris that is lying around.
Amelia x

H Amelia,
What a change to the soo-side over the years with the new buildings but we always will remember the Tenements where we were brought up, absolutley hated leaving the soo-side to go to south Nitshill but that's all in the past now [unfortunately]. Hope you and Hubby get all the decorating done without "any arguements" as I had a few in my time with my ex wife trying to decorate ha ha. Will go for a dauner to the Bowling Green but don't know if I will be allowed in there or not ?. have so many people to meet Amelia and 'am trying to fit in everybody. I even have a "meet" with Colin Mackie in the Southern Necropolis on the Sunday 10 th Aug to have a conducted tour [diddny need that when we were weans, we jist climbed oer the wa' ha ha ]. Will give you a run down on the reunion when I'm back [If God Spares me]. Take care Amelia and God Bless all.

Regards.
Danny :)

Hi Reg
Great to see you back on here posting again. Hope you get your phone problem sorted out. Sounds like you have been real busy in the kitchen too.
Thanks for your good wishes for my husband. Taking it day by day and hoping the extra physiotherapy helps in his recovery. My beautiful new grand daughter was born on May 8th and named Rebecca Clair. I had no say in her name left that up to her Mom & Dad :D She's a wonderful wee content baby, makes up for her older sister who needs four people chasing after her with the energy she has. Thanks again Reg for your good wishes and I hope you and your wife are keeping well.
Amelia good luck with your decorating, hope you get through it without any assaults
Enjoy your tour of the Necropolis Danny, I'm sure Colin will give you lots of interesting information.
Take care and bye for now Sheila

I just logged on to Old Gorbals Pictures and checked out some of the pictures that so many people have genorously posted there and it looks like it was a very fun night...Lots and lots of very good looking people all dressed up for a great occasion. It seemed, however, that most of the people were not over the age of say "sixty" so if I had been there, I would probably not have known anyone...Looks like a lot of the people must have come to the Gorbals when the new flats were built and maybe some of them were children or grandchilren of "auld wans" like me who really lived in the old tenements before they were torn down...Now those folks really are Old Gorbals People...But like the Gorbals People of old...they do know how to "Party." ;) :) ;) :)

Hi Peeps,
Well that's me just back from my weeks holiday in Glasgow and what a week I had [hic], I had to meet up with people all over the Gorbals area and it was great speaking to old friends again. Now the Gorbals reunion was some night , it was packed out and everyone had a great time. I got there at 18.30 to set up my wee table for the 2 copys of my book that I had donated to collect money on the night for the local Hospice and not only me but other people were selling raffle tickets [for bottles of vodka, Teddy Bears etc etc] and there was £2150 collected on the night for the Hospice and well done to everyone who bought a ticket. The main door opened at 19.00 and by the time 21.00 came the Glencairn club was jam packed [350 tickets sold]. Fair play to all the bar staff, I think there was 7 of them and they were ran off of their feet all night long. Everyone was enjoying theirselves sitting at tables or fliting from table to table to chat with friends or people who they had met on the Gorbals face book sites. Everybody was given a name tag to wear on the night so you had an idea who you were actually talking to ha ha. All the Ladies were dressed up beautifully . the icing on the cake came at 21.30 when the Saint Francis pipe-band came into the hall playing " when the Saints go marching in" and marched playing the Bagpipes into the Hall to a great cheer but the they finished and played "Scotland the Brave" well i thought that the cheering would bring the rood down it was brilliant. I sat at the table with my raffle tickets till 21.30 then went and joined other people for a drink till about 23.30 then as my legs were playing me up got a taxi back to my hotel, I wish i could have stayed longer but was in a bit of pain but I thoroughly enjoyed myself on the night. Fair play to Christina Gray and everyone else who was involved in organising the reunion it was a great night. I was thinking of all the people who couldn't be there on the night and raided my glass to toast you all.

Regards.
Danny :)

Hi , Danny, Amellia, Sheila, Margaret & Gang
First of thanks for replies and good wishes and I am pleased that you had a great time at your recent re- union.
Also that so much was raised for good causes on the night.<Dan :o ny>
I am slowly getting to grips with this slightly more sophisticated technologyof a computer . :)

Sheila your new Grand-daughter soundslike a "Wee Treasure"and hope that your husband is continually on the mend
Amelia I went to Abbotsford Place School until Iwas seven years old and then moved to the West side of Glasgow
My primary school teacher was a Miss Minnie Wilson who was a spinster and sadly she was murdered by a certain
"Peter Manuel who I believe was the last man to hang in Scotland ther were at least seven or eight murders and it was a
big story in the fifties .
I would just like to say on a cheerier note that I watched the Commonwealth Games and felt proud to be a Glaswegian
although Iwas actually born in Paisley Also thought the closing ceremony was very good . Loved the Pipe bands at the finish. :)
I have been away for 5 days house sitting for a couple of friends and looking after there cat and dog which was quite
interesting.

Anyway there is a web-site Danny for "house - sitting and you only have to turn up and the accommodation is Free!!
The choce of places are quite varied as well . Barbados sounds great or just somewhere hot. :D
I will be going to my niece's wedding in Alloway in December so will be coming through Glasgow again and there is
always something or an occasion or celebration that calls you back.
Hope to keep in touch more .
Best regards Reg

Hi Reg+Gang,
Just a quick note Reg, yes I remember the murders of Peter Manuel and I believe you are correct in that he was the last man to be hanged in Scotland [Britain ?], he actually fired his lawyer halfway through his trial and went on to defend himself. Speak later m8.

Regards Danny :)

Hi gang
Hope this finds everyone in good health.
Glad you enjoyed your holiday in Glasgow Danny. You looked great in all the photo's prior to the reunion but I was scared you were going to drink Glasgow dry before I manage over there  The reunion looked like it was a fantastic night. Although I don't know most of the people it was great to see some of my childhood pals, also smashing to be able to put faces now to peoples names. Loved the fact the charity chosen was the hospice and wonderful the amount of money that was raised.
Hi Reg thank you for your kind words about our latest grandchild she is a wee beauty and so content, so we've decided we'll just keep all three grand kids and not send any back. :D Husband still on the mend, saw the surgeon today and was told still a ways to go, but most important at least he's making progress. People always say "you never know the minute" in our case I certainly can relate to that now. That's great you're coming to grips with your new computer and technology, maybe you can teach me one day
Amelia I hope you and your husband are keeping well and you also Margaret, hope your weather has been cooperating for you.
I watched the opening and closing ceremonies of the games. The opening I wasn't wild about but thought the closing was fantastic. Like you Reg, I loved the pipe bands and the lone piper up the top, oh I was so scared he would fall with that wind that was blowing :o Glasgow did a magnificent job of hosting the games and our reporters in Canada said "Australia has a very big task ahead of them because the hosting and friendliness of the Glasgow people was second to none" I got all emotional when they said that. I wanted to shout "aye and that's my people" :D
Take care and bye for now everyone Sheila

Hi Shelia+gang,
Yes the reunion was great Shelia with me meeting up with lots of people that I had spoken to before but to put a face to a name is so much better :), glad your husband is making progress [slowly but surely] Shelia and whenever he is fully fit you both can make a trip back to Glasgow hopefully. Good luck with the new computer Reg, when I got this new lap top with windows 8 it took me ages to get my head round it, the very same 18 months ago when I got my first smart phone [nightmares at first]. I suppose it's like anything when you use it for a while it becomes second nature to you. Will finish for now folks and speak to you all later.

Regards.
Danny :)

Hi everyone and it's brilliant to see you all coming back on again, glad your reunion was great Danny haven't seen many of the pictures and as Margaret says the ages would be around 50/60 mark so they wouldn't have lived in the tenements that we lived in so it must have been the "Hutchie" flats or the new houses in Commercial Rd. , oh to be 60 again as I hate getting old, when I look in the mirror in the morning I feel like putting a paper bag over my face  I'll be 79 in October but I don't feel like it the body sometimes feels it but I still manage to go out and about. That was a great amount of money they collected and for a good cause. Glad you managed home alright and did you take your wee bottle in your back pocket Danny
Reg glad your getting to grips with your new computer and your old school is still standing, I never went to it but I remember going to a night class for dressmaking when I was married. The Chalmers church still stands but I think it like a hostel or something as I see young people coming out of it sometimes. I remember we started a "penny bank" there we had to go to the church hall the door was in Cavendish St.to put our money in it, don't know who run it whether it was the minister that belonged to the church.
Sheila glad everything is going well with your hubby never mind in a wee while he will be chasing you about the "hoose" so don't run to fast  Our decorating is all done no murders or black eyes but the old body is feeling it that's the last will be getting somebody in the next time. Just after checking my Irish lottery counted up my bets and think I have won about £23/24 I do a permutation 15pence a line  Hope you are OK and Margaret I will drop you a email soon and sleep well everyone Good night
Amelia x
p.s. heard all the new houses in Gorbals St and Cumberland ST. and getting issued wonder who is going to get them
