Hi Gang,
Do you remember years ago when as weans we bought a penny Dabbity [I think this is the spelling ?] out of the shop, you put it usually on the back of your hand and dampend it and the "picture" appeared . You would show all your pals and you thought it was the biz but when you washed it would disappear [Naw Ma I don't want to wash my hauns lol]. Then a when I was older about 20 and I was going with this girl called Jean and one Saturday after having a good few beers I went to the Tattooist shop and got her name tattooed om my forearm and I did really feel all grown up, only thing was later when I got married my wife's name was Maureen and She used to nag me to death to get the tattoo blanked. Well one day [another Sat after a few beers] I went to the tattoist and got Jean's name blanked but a few months after that me and my wife parted and later divorced [although we stayed good friends]. I look at some of the young ladies today and a lot of them seem to have a Chineese design tattoo at the base of their spine or maybe on their shoulder, personally I don't like those [but each to their own]. One thing I definitley cant stand is football/pop stars who have their whole arms covered in tattoos and to me it looks horrible. I'll bet in a few years time they wish it was a dabbity covering their arms and they could wash it off. Wonder what you all think about this topic.
Regards.
Danny :)

Hi Danny,

Yeah I remember Dabbities (transfers), you used to get pirate ones and cartoon ones like popeye etc. You would hold them on the back of your hand/arm and lick them and after a minute or so when they dried out you took them off and you had a great tattoo. Occasionally you would wet it too much and you were left with a pretty sorry looking smudged tattoo    Ah the compulsory washing of the hands, well Danny I used to find away around keeping my tattoo for a bit longer by using a face cloth/flannel to wash my hands, of course taking great care to wash around the tat. My mum used to say to me "why is your tattoo still there if you washed your hands properly?" I used to tell her that you could buy waterproof ones but they used to cost a halfpenny more! She believed me, bless her heart. However, the inadvertent pay off was instead of getting a penny when you asked could you get some money for a tattoo, mum gave you a thrupenny bit to get two, yes you've got it, I would get three :D :D :D

Take care Danny.

John

Hi Danny

Yes I remember the dabbity's, we all thought we were cool with our tattoos. lol I'm right there with you too Danny about people covered in tattoos, can't go it myself. Someone I know had several and this was before they were fashionable and they ended up 30 years later paying a fortune to have them lasered off. To each their own but when they're done to excess, don't like them. They should just use dabbity's instead. ;) Cheers, Sheila

Hi Sheila,

I agree, a nice small but discreet tattoo is interesting. I don't like to see arms full of them, it looks terrible and I cant see the sense in having them all over your face and neck! What are these people thinking of!

Take care.

John
