Dave Stevenson the trumpet player was my da John Boyle we lived in 320 Lawmoor St, 2 up I can remember. Every nerday my da would clean his trumpet ready to play on the stroke of midnight he would wink at us and say "Faith of our Fathers boys" and ma maw a prody jump in "F.that the sash will do" we all luaghed and he played "A GUID NEW YEAR" then the window got pulled down and he played Lizzy Boyle". So Dave as that time of year rushes near I will wish yourself and all of the world I hope next year is a more peacefull one as a non believer I cant say god bless but as a gorbalonian I say AWE RA BEST Jimmy Boyle.

Basically I used to be married to Charlie Cox from Anderston Glasgow and we had three children Charlie Daniel Cox in 1981 and Angela who died at eight days old and wee John Robert Cox. The boys have grown up now and are interested in hearing if they have any relatives in Oatlands, uncle Tony Cox, Eleaner Kelly or Evelly Kelly or Francis Cox junior or even there father Charlie Cox, he used to live at 151 Roseberry Street Oatlands and they drank at the wee Mill I think. We also lived in 87 Suunylaw St Possilpark glasgow in 1985, it would be nice to hear from anyone who knew us then I was called Anne Cox then.

Does anybody remember my papa James Augustine Kerins who lied in Surrey street (I think) although it could have been Portland Street? He was a fantastic Storyteller but I think he was considered to be a bit eccentric. He was orinally born in America and he had 2 sons, Tommy (my Daddy, who was blind) and Matthew. He also had 2 daughters, Mary and Katie.

Is there anyone out there that knew my father James William Liddell, he was born on the 17/06/1939 or 1940 in Gorbals? I do not know much about my father as he died on the 31/01/1979 when I was 3 mths old. The only info I have on him is that he worked on the trawlers, and a week b4 he died there was an inquest into the death of a young man that sailed with him, who jumped over board due to marital problems. He had a brother that worked as a Postmaster in the General Office in Glasgow and a sister that was a midwife at Glasgow Hospital. If anyone can help me please contact me.

Hello, this is for kathleen Well now, me name is Ikey Moses. I’m a chap that’s very wellknown I live in the city of Gloucester, got a business of me own I own a drapers shop, me name’s upon the top and I’m doing a rattling business in me old cloth shop. I sell me corduroy-suls, they’re the best American tweed I sell me sheets and blankets, at a rare old speed For now, a man come in the other day, a suit of clothes to buy I give him a suit for twelve and six - “Try them on for size” He tried ’em on to a very well fit only ready to walk away I tipped him on the shoulder, saying “Your money you have to pay” He turned around and looked at me and then his fist he drew He doubled me up in the corner, say - “That’s the place for you” I shouted for a cop, he said “You’d better stop Or you’ll soon be having a funeral in your old cloth shop". Only one other example of this song is found in Roud - Maurice Ogg collected it in the early 1970s ’from a couple of old ladies sat in a pub in Lincolnshire' - though I’m sure I’ve heard it elsewhere ... but can’t recall where or from whom. Jim McBride collected a version which he was going to include in the 1988 Innishowen Singers’ Circle booklet, but didn’t for some reason. Here’s his comment and the song text: This song was a favourite of the late John Grant (Daniels) who enjoyed life to the full and died suddenly in April of 1987. John’s infectious good humour and light-hearted approach to living inspired all those who knew him. Even though he was advanced in years and in poor health he still insisted on struggling up the hill from his ’demountable’ in Foffanagh to catch the minibus to the town on several nights a week where he regaled many’s a friend and indeed strangers with his wit, his stories and especially his songs. The Brass Rail Bar hasn’t been the same since his demise. The song simply relates the tale of an Irishman who opened a second-hand cloth shop in ’Paddy’s Market’ in the Saltmarket in Glasgow. Indeed Paddy’s Market still existed thirty years ago and for all we know may still exist.

Hi, I’m here in Canada and would very much like to contact very dear friend of mine Mr. Danny Coyle, he used to have a shop on Crown St about two doors from where we lived at 185, this was back in 1950! I understand he also has a wholesale business at the “Fruit Market” in COWCADDENS. If you could possibly send me his email I’d be forever grateful.

I am still trying to find my relatives up in Scotland after about 2 years with no clues it's as if my father and the family never existed, I find this very sad dad was always happy and full of fun and anyone that met him thought he was great. However, is there some dark secret that no one wants me to find out, no one has come forward with my request for help in finding them. My father was Ramsay MacDonald from Portugal Street Glasgow, his mother died when he was seven this would be around 1932. His aunt and uncle brought him up they were Peter & Grace Jackson who lived in Portugal Street, if anyone does know of anyone that might have known this family please get in touch asap? I know he has a cousin up in Perth called Jessie and I have written twice but she hasn't answered my letters, I can't help wondering why. I would have been a very young girl the last time I saw her but would dearly love to meet her again thanks for reading this Jean.

I remember during the 1960s walking past the "buroo" near the broomielaw where there was a big poster advertising passeges to austrialia for £10. I know quite a few people from the gorbals took the offer up and I have often wondered how they got on...did you go and come back? or did you stay there and just got on with it?...some of your stories would be nice to hear! A whole generation of gorbals people emigrated, what exactly happened to them and where are they now? Do they still feel homesick or has life in a "better country" made them happier? There is a prize for the best story...a penny dainty!
