Anecdote I cant believe how popular or unpopular Ten Quid has become its becoming to dominant on here surely there are other topics we can discuss, hes a rip van winkle dr. jekyll &Hyde character we all know that but lets just leave it and let him rave on. They say Celtic will win the league for the next 20 years but that too is only farcical, without Rangers theres no point in Scottish football, any views on that?

FAO. Qiunton Boyle, are you for real, lets say you are cause your story is like many I have heard before, a load of wanes were left behind when families emigrated to Australia, Tam Brysland my mate was left behind cause he was only 2 years old but his family always got in touch he went over in 1972, I was born in Kidstone street next door to the Bookies, not to far away from Lawmoor street, I knew a family called Boyle much to the description you give, but I was only a nipper, I wish you luck it must be hard not knowing your real family, what about the Boyle on here he's from Australia, maybe he knows something an not telling I go to the library a lot see what I can do.

Hi, does anyone remember the St. Francis disco that was held on a Sunday night in the two old halls in St Francis primary? "the old school"? I remember starting off in the wee hall and then when you got a bit of savvy, you got into the big hall, complete with a bike wheel covered in different coloured cellophane, spinning around on the wall for a "disco" effect! Afterwards, going to Marios chippy for a bag of chips and a pickle! Obvously, nae lumber!

FAO..Anne Brannon, I knew John Douglas he stayed in Cumberland street, but no need asking your friend if he knew him as he would say yes but it would not be true, John Douglas was a mate of mine around 1960-64 and I knew all his family and friends, in his younger days he was a devote catholic, but John ended up in prison and I never saw him after that. His Dad Hughie was a great Celtic man.

I often wonder where our slang hails from especially Glasgow slang, we scots invented the Queens English but we prefer to abreviate, words like Bampot--Ya Bam- Tolee--Keech, Naw, Aye, peace an jam, doon the duney, och wummin, gies peace, the lavvy, polis, dae ye want yer hole, (he he) yer jaket, kin yi dae that, barney dillion=shilling, lobie, pullover, jersey, why oh why do we do this?

FAO Gorgie Porgy , not nice making Tenquid cry! reading his posts sometimes make you happy ! Others they make you very very snappy! to ask a question is fair enough, to answer the same, that's a bit rough! To remember squabbles at your age is good, without the squabble Post date you are being rude! wee tip for you from one old yin to another, ignore one! Up pop's their sister or brother! Before my story starts to blether, Oz has not been having good weather! The climate has changed and so has my body, to kick a ball I would need a hot tody! I have never commented on anybody's post, unless they first choose to be the host! Georgi Porgy I have never squabbled with you, I squabble with life but that's nothing new! I hope we can write in some civilised manner, we can converse without flying someone else's banner! Take care Gorgie and good health to you "not the worst poet in the world must be near!" Tenquid

F.A.O. Anon, How are you getting on, if you look at my post 26/6/06 you will see how I caught your man out, as did, Mark same year and Chef Eddie and a load more, he was also calling himself Gorbals Jim, jimmy boyle, and a few more, . Born 1947, been a bricklayer, plumber, builder, built his own toilet in Thistle st! delivered coal, worked in Dixon Blazes, was a Boxer, fought in London, being in the Army Cadets, and the B.Brigade, got married in 1957! must have been only 10 years old went to Oz in around 58, scored the winning goal at Hampden, played for Celtic, it goes on and on and the good thing is its all in here. The amasing thing is he has had every illness under the sun doctors in Barcelona say it was the Gorbals air, but are we forgeting the pollution at Dixon Blazes? I hope this helps you. I have not been on here for ages, Im sure you can guess the reason. Nice to see the Administrator is keeping the Gorbals forum going, see still a lot of the old coggers like myself still there. The last time I had a drink was in the Pig and Whistle a few years back do you know the place?

Everytime TQ comes back on to this site there's fighting. He's encouraged by his wee group of followers with their praise which he craves. He's an attention seeker, pure and simple and it's actually quite sad that he goes to the length he does to get noticed. He lives in Australia but posts an anniversary wish on the Gorbals site to his wife, as well as all his health problems and astounding miracle recoveries. Get real! This site is supposed to be about memories and experiences of growing up in the Gorbals, but as I said any attention he can get is better than no attention I guess. Over the years on here he continues to insult good folk left and right and the webmaster has allowed it and I can't understand why? There's no need to allow people to be attacked on here for voicing their opinions. This is supposed to be about people's memories and experiences, so nobody should be allowed to attack them for telling their stories. Half the folk on here leaving comments for him are in touch with him on facebook or email so writing to him on here is just a farce. Also for the people that can't read the posts written in slang, don't worry about it, you're missing nothing it's a lot of nonsense written by another attention seeker who is also an ex pat. The webmaster allows the slang and again I know not why, as we didn't write like that in school, and I think it's a real shame for non Scots visiting this site and them trying to figure out what the post is about. There's a lot of Scottish born people don't understand it either because it's usually total nonsense. Someone posted on here if you post anything against some folk on here you get bombarded with hate emails which is just so childish, yet not surprising. This a great wee website and it's fantastic to read most of the posts when they're FOCUSED on memories or trying to find someone etc,. Having said all this, I do think the webmaster does do a good job but would hate this site to go back to how it was with all the squabbling and two posters apparently dominating these forums. If that happens again we'll all be wondering who's really running this website? So here we go, I'll be attacked now for daring to have an opinion on this.

That poor lassie got skelfs in her hand every time she went to the lavvy, it's hardly a thing to make a joke about. FAO; T.Quid. Seems to be a lot of misunderstanding last form sent on here was not mine email megan 50? someone having a giggle. Also re ages might be a mis print or whatever but perfectly true, my name has been Armstrong for dunks, but its difficult inside of me knowing my real name is Boyle, I see there is another Boyle on here looking for his great grandad, Boyle was a common name in the Gorbals, just as bad as John Smith was, I was best mates with Harry Boyle Jimmys younger brother, so as I said all I want in my heart is to find my true blood, and why we were left behind. Please if you cannot help me do not hinder me, I know it is difficult after all these years but I am hoping just like Tommy Boyle someone, someday will give me my answers. I mean how long were you called ten quid? I see a guy chic mcqueen who apparantley has not seen you since his gorbals days when you were called Jimmy, so that speaks volumes, he would never have known that recent name ten quid. Anyway you have a good day and please no comments on my search for my family, I hope you enjoy your life in Australia and live a long life and if you know of any Boyles from Lawmoor street out there or can help me I would be appreciated.

Hi Anne Brannan sorry I don't recollect any of those names! But one pal I did have came from that close was Billy Hart! he did some boxing in the late 50s! we were in the same weight division but in a different class Billy went on to box for the British middleweight championship out of Manchester! Nobody would believe he could harm a fly he was such a shy boy! When I left school I got him my old job in Johns hairdresser's shop at the corner of Florence Street and Cumberland Street facing the toilets with the wrought iron fence around them! Johns wife run the ladies part of the shop! One day she called me in and proceeded to perm my blonde hair Tony Curtis style! I think she made a mint from all the boys sneaking in saying "just give me a wee perm on the front! " That was in the real scary hairy days! Believe me Tenquid

Hows it goin TQ I played fitba with Chic McQueen, might be we got the wrong fello, but I also spent time in the Big Hoose in Peterhead with him and later on Bar-l his younger brother Tony was a wild man, they moved from Possil to Toryglen . I dont get ur drift pal but all the names are still pals of mine most of them came from, Calder Street, Carfin St, Annette St and Langside Road, we once played in a cup final at Giffnock Amateurs ground, we were half pi**ed from the Friday night, we were 2-0 down at half time got back to 2-2 but lost in the last minute to a penalty, we could not take it, so all hell broke out, we stole their cup and three of us ended up in Craigie Street, me, Ziggy, Billy Masterton, all govanhill boys except me.

To Jimmy Boyle, back a few years. I blamed you how my brother, James Hayes, known as gabby ended up in prison all his days because he hung about with you. I take it back. I'm sorry nobody could make my brother do things he didn't want to do then or now. I'm 65 fit & healthy, my brother 68, the prison life has took its toll, he's not very healthy with all the beating in prison
