Born 1948 (Mathieson Street), moved to Moffat Street around 1955, then to Canada in 1963. I went to St. Francis and then Holyrood. Surely someone remembers me and would like to get in touch.

In answer to Gorbals Jim1. I asked my mum if my dad ever got called Tarzan as a nickname and she said she had heard him called that because of his build, he wasn't very tall but had a good build. He had an Uncle Thomas and a cousin who was christened Thomas so I suppose would have got Tam and he did have a connection to a Sammy Wilson through a relative called "Big Suzie". I think Sammy had a connection with Benny Lynch, something to do with the training. Do you know anything about the Wilson family especially Bunty and Sadie Wilson. Doreen

Don't know if anyone can help; trying to find out more about my granny who was a district nurse in the Gorbals possibly around early 1920s. Can't seem to find out when or why she came to Glasgow, she might have lived in Gorbals area while nursing there but not sure. It's a very vague story, but if anyone has any memories I'd love to hear from you!

Great Website!! I have been reading through this wonderful site and can relate to many comments. I stayed at 165 stockwell st. brought up by my grandparents. Went to buchan st. school and then strathie. My Granny Doran, although she had 11 children through her 2 marriages, looked after me so well and granda Doran worked in John Browns as a caulker. He liked a wee drink and my Granny used to wonder how when he left the house on a saturday with half a crown then come back paraletic, but he would sing in the popinjay and was rewarded with a few beers. That was the way it was. My Grannies first man was killed in action in France. His name was William McKenna, they had i think 4 children, Maggie, Bill, Charles and Jeanie who was my mother. Then there was the Doran children, May, Margaret, Cathie, Jackie, Carrie and Jean. So I was spoilt at times with my aunties. My uncle Jackie was a big man and a big character, well known for his great humour and we would have family parties on a saturday night and there were a few screwtaps for me to take the empties to moffats on the monday.

TEMPLETONS CARPETS GLASGOW would like to say as a glasgow born boy ended up delivering templetons carpets from 1978 until 1982 in the berkshire area and south of england. They were brought down to CARROLLS TRANSPORT MIDDLESEX then loaded onto bedford TK lorries and delivered to carpet shops and warehouses. I used to take my lorry home 40 miles away with a full load thankfully nobody broke into the back of it so I am proud to be able to say that I handled Templetons Glasgow carpets. Can I ask if anyone knows where I can get any old pictures of lorries loading up at templetons or transport associated with templetons carpets will pay for them kind regards peter coyle

My family came from the area and my greatgrandfather paddy carroll lived in/near ballater street. As far as i can gather he had two sons and a daughter, there may have been more. My grandfather paddy moved to dundee and settled in a part of the town called 'little tipperary' i don't think i need to provide an explanation why, and worked in the the worlds largest jute mill called cox's. His brother tony i have led to believe played for clyde leicester city and belfast celtic. They had a sister annie who remained in the gorbals and married a bookmaker called keelan. My greatgrandfather was a tobacco spinner and he married helen holmes. I have also been told that they may have lived in tobago street and abercrombie street. If anyone can supply any information on any member of my family in glasgow i would be VERY grateful. thanks

FAO Alaina Walker, there was 2 pawn shops in Florence one off Rutherglen road and the other one was off Ballater street, sorry no photos. I remember the dairy in Moffat Street it was at the right hand side of the pend where you cut through to Sandyfaulds Street. The couple were very nice and they used to help out the people by giving them "tick" on their messages. I think they stayed in Carmyle or around that area if I can recall. I lived at the top end of it and nearly all the people from around that area used their shop.
